‘Orange Pilled’ by Censorship: Trump Jr. Links Free Speech and DeFi in Vegas Speech
Donald Trump Jr. linked his family’s embrace of bitcoin directly to experiences of financial and speech suppression during an appearance at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas.

When asked how he was “orange pilled,” Donald Trump Jr. described being “debanked” and “de-insured” following political backlash, which he characterized as realizing they were “at the top of a Ponzi scheme” within traditional finance (TradFi). He framed bitcoin as a necessary innovation against this fragility, similar to creating alternative platforms like Rumble after social media bans.
He highlighted significant financial commitments, announcing Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is creating a multi-billion dollar bitcoin treasury. Trump Jr. predicted widespread corporate bitcoin adoption is imminent, stating “we’re almost at that all of a sudden moment,” driven by necessity and regulatory clarity under his father’s administration, which he called “extremely pro bitcoin and pro crypto.”
Trump Jr. mocked political opponents on crypto understanding. He sarcastically offered his “entire crypto wallet” to hear former Vice President Kamala Harris explain blockchain technology, predicting it would be “the greatest word salad in the history of Kamala Harris’ word salads” and “a 30-minute explanation of nothing.”
He argued the fights for financial freedom via bitcoin and for free speech via alternative platforms are “inextricably linked,” both stemming from centralized systems restricting access based on viewpoint. “DeFi is gonna change so many aspects of the financial systems to create the efficiencies that we need that have been lacking,” the President’s son stated.
Trump Jr. concluded that strong U.S. leadership promoting these freedoms is crucial globally, praising recent speeches by Vice President JD Vance in Europe challenging censorship laws.
