Former CFTC Commissioner to Lead Blockchain Association

CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger will leave her position on May 30. Starting June 2, she will take on the role of CEO at the non-profit organization Blockchain Association, The Block reports.

"She is the perfect leader for the association at a turning point," said Blockchain Association Chairwoman Martha Belcher.

The departure of Mersinger was the second change in the composition of the CFTC in a month: earlier, Kristi Goldsmith Romero announced plans to leave the Commission. After this, there will be two active commissioners remaining at the regulator.

The Mersinger decision coincided with the active work of Congress on laws regulating stablecoins and the digital asset market as a whole. The projects faced criticism due to Donald Trump's involvement in the crypto market.

In April, CEO of the Blockchain Association Kristin Smith announced her transition to the Solana Policy Institute.

Recall that in December 2024, the director of policy at a16z Crypto, Brian Quintenz, became the main contender for the position of CFTC chairman.
