Today I want to share about what meme coins are because I see many people still confused about this type of cryptocurrency. They differ from Bitcoin or Ethereum in that meme coins are born from humorous ideas, social media trends rather than technology or real projects. But don’t underestimate them, because what is a meme coin and why does it have the potential to increase in value extremely quickly?
What is the advantage of meme coins? It’s the power of the community. When a meme coin is loved by the community, its price can increase by 100-200% in just a few weeks. I’ve seen many people change their lives thanks to this trend. However, the volatility is also very high, so caution is needed.
Speaking of prominent meme coins, you can’t ignore Dogecoin. Launched in 2013, but really exploded when Elon Musk started promoting it. Currently, DOGE has a market capitalization of about $18 billion, up 4.75% in 24 hours, ranking as the largest meme coin.
There’s Shiba Inu, launched in 2021 with the goal of building a decentralized community. Its price has increased by over 2 million percent, showing what makes meme coins attractive — a quick profit opportunity. SHIB is currently up 4.33% today.
Then there’s PEPE, a meme coin inspired by the famous green frog. Interestingly, PEPE took less than a month to reach a market cap of $1 billion. Currently, PEPE’s market cap is $1.79 billion. PEPE was listed on major exchanges very quickly, showing market recognition. From its launch on 4/16/2023 to May 2023, PEPE had over 835,000 transactions, with more than 171,000 buyers.
What needs to be understood is that meme coins are fundamentally — they have no real utility, only representing a fun image. PEPE has no utility beyond entertainment and trend-based investing. That’s why investors shouldn’t hold them long-term. Find meme coins with low prices and strong communities for a chance at unexpected gains.
Overall, what is it about meme coins that attracts the entire crypto community? It’s a combination of entertainment, a strong community, and the ability to increase in value quickly. But remember, high profits come with high risks, so think carefully before participating.
