Retail investors fear losses, whales fear being exposed: Master these 3 signals and you'll break free from the retail trap
After spending time on exchanges, many people start to feel the market is full of traps everywhere. Actually, when you think about it differently, what you can see is often exactly what the whales want you to see.
In my early days, I was a typical chaser who would buy highs and sell lows, repeatedly losing money to whales. Later, through constant review and analysis, I discovered three "loopholes" that whales fear most for retail investors to find. After that, my account gradually turned around.
What looks like consolidation is actually whales testing your patience.
How to identify it? The simplest method: volume gradually shrinks during consolidation, but price firmly holds the support line without breaking—this means they're locking in positions. Another scenario: when bad news comes, they dump, but they firmly defend the key support level—whales are using bad news to shake out the uncommitted.
Real example: A certain coin consolidated at the 0.78 level for exactly one week, then suddenly pulled a bullish candle to 0.82 on a certain trading day, and the next day went straight to 1.1. By the time retail investors reacted and wanted to chase, there was no opportunity left.
**Signal 2: False breakdowns below support lines**
This is what deceives retail investors most easily. Price breaks below, panic selling, and the whales have already left the stage.
Identification technique: After breaking below, quickly reverse and pull back to key levels; or a low-volume breakdown followed by high-volume reversal back up—this is whales creating panic to clear the way for the next pump.
Remember this phrase that works: If it's truly heading down, there's no need to act. Those who act usually are preparing to pull up.
**Signal 3: Continuous decline from the top, this isn't oscillation**
The coin price rushes to a high but can't keep climbing, don't think it's just normal fluctuation. Consecutive failed rallies essentially mean whales are distributing.
Distribution signals look like this: consecutive upper wicks plus high-volume trading—indicating large sell orders; or the appearance of a "dark cloud cover"
