The number of initial jobless claims in the U.S. has seen a slight rise and may continue to rise in the future.
On April 10, Jin10 data reported that the number of people applying for unemployment benefits for the first time in the U.S. slightly rose last week. As companies respond to Trump's import tariff plans, this figure may show an upward trend. The U.S. Department of Labor stated on Thursday that, for the week ending April 5, the number of initial unemployment claims increased by 4,000, adjusted for seasonal variations, totaling 223,000, up from the previous value of 219,000. The Trump administration's tariff campaign has severely weakened business and consumer sentiment, which could pressure investment, spending, and labor demand. Although overall layoffs remain at historical lows, hiring has been lukewarm, leading to long periods of unemployment for jobless individuals. Meanwhile, Trump's tariffs have increased the likelihood of an economic recession in the next 12 months.
