Solana breaks through with the Alpenglow upgrade: Fast transactions at 150 milliseconds, opening a new era for DeFi and blockchain gaming.
Solana is about to enter a major technological turning point with the Alpenglow upgrade, reducing transaction confirmation time to just 150 milliseconds – nearly 100 times faster than before.
This proposal (SIMD-0326) was approved by the community with over 98% support, replacing the Proof-of-History and TowerBFT mechanisms with two new components: Rotor (faster data distribution) and Votor (efficient consensus voting). As a result, Solana achieves performance equivalent to Web2, providing stability, high scalability, and is particularly suitable for DeFi, blockchain gaming, and payments.
According to the roadmap, the testnet will be deployed at the end of 2025 and the mainnet will launch in early 2026. With over 1.7 billion USD in SOL in the corporate treasury, Solana not only affirms its strategic position but also reaffirms its pioneering role in Layer-1 innovation, setting a new standard for speed and reliability compared to Ethereum, Avalanche, and Aptos.
