Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe revealed in an interview that the company is investing “hundreds of millions of dollars” in its custom chip project, with the first chip, internally called the Rivian Autonomous Driving Processor or RAP-1, set to debut this year. Scaringe stated that the company plans to release a new chip “every few years,” with RAP-2 and RAP-3 being follow-up products to the first chip, utilizing chip technology that is “more powerful” than the TSMC 5-nanometer process used for RAP-1. “This isn’t a matter of investing hundreds of millions of dollars and calling it a day,” Scaringe said, “We have assembled a team. This team will continue to develop future versions of the platform.” (Sina Finance)
