So I've been watching ethereum price action pretty closely, and February 2026 turned out to be exactly the kind of crossroads everyone was talking about. After that rough 7% dip in January, ETH came into the month facing some real pressure. Historically, February has been decent for ethereum - averaging around 15% gains since 2016 - but this year felt different from the start.
What caught my attention was how the on-chain data was actually painting an interesting picture. The NUPL indicator was sitting around 0.19, which is that 'hope-fear' zone that's preceded some solid bounces before. Whales were actively accumulating too - they'd added like 4 million ETH through January despite the price weakness. That's the kind of signal you don't usually ignore.
The technical setup showed ETH stuck in a descending wedge on the daily, which typically suggests consolidation before a move. Support was holding around $2,690, and a real breakout would've targeted somewhere north of $3,340. But here's the thing - the conviction was wavering. Hodler accumulation slowed dramatically by late January, and ETF flows were all over the place. One day strong inflows, the next day massive withdrawals.
Looking back now, February played out as more of a relief rally than a full trend reversal. The ethereum price february 2026 period showed some recovery, but nothing sustained. We needed ethereum price to convincingly clear $3,000 and hold it, which didn't quite happen the way the bullish case suggested. The whale accumulation did matter though - at least it prevented a total capitulation scenario.
Key levels that mattered were $2,690 support, then $3,000 as the psychological barrier, with $3,340-$3,520 as the real test zones. If any of those broke decisively, it would've signaled something bigger was shifting. But with institutions staying cautious and derivatives potentially taking over price discovery, the market just kind of drifted sideways most of the month. Sometimes that's actually the most important signal - when everything's balanced and waiting for the next catalyst.
