Sources: Iran may suspend uranium enrichment activities in exchange for U.S. recognition of its nuclear rights and unfreezing of funds.

On May 29, two Iranian official sources said that Iran may suspend uranium enrichment activities if the United States unfreezes Iran’s frozen funds under a “political deal” that could lead to a broader nuclear deal and recognizes Tehran’s right to refine uranium for civilian use. Sources close to the negotiating team said on Wednesday that if Washington accepts Tehran’s terms, “a political understanding with the United States may be reached quickly.” One of the sources said that during the talks with the United States, the matter “has not yet been discussed.” Under this arrangement, Tehran will stop uranium enrichment for a year, ship part of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium abroad, or convert it into fuel plates for civilian nuclear use, the sources said.
