Ethereum developer complains: New computer offline cannot start, concerns about centralized systems

Abstract generation in progress

【ChainNews】Ethereum core developers recently vented about a situation on social media. He bought a new computer and wanted to try installing Linux, but ended up going through the Windows boot process. Surprisingly— the entire process required an internet connection and continuous connection to Microsoft’s servers to complete. If the internet was disconnected or the connection failed, it would get stuck.

He bluntly described this design as “dystopian.” From a certain perspective, this reflects a common flaw in many centralized systems today: users’ dependence on services is increasing, and privacy and autonomy are becoming more restricted. In contrast, decentralized systems emphasize offline usability and user autonomy, making them especially valuable.

This rant resonated with many in the tech community and also reminded us why Web3 insists on returning data and control to users—because behind the convenience of centralization, there are often hidden costs we haven’t noticed.

Microsoft's approach is really brilliant, even offline you have to kneel --- Windows design is truly a letdown, why does installing a system require catering to big corporate servers --- Dystopia is well said, centralization is just so disgusting --- Can't even do offline startup? Laughing out loud, this is the real rug --- So I still use Linux, more freedom --- Big corporations' control obsession is really getting stronger, users have become just leeks --- This is the reason why Web3 exists, give me back my autonomy --- Windows is really annoying, always trying to hijack you --- Relying on the internet to install systems? What kind of logic is this --- No wonder developers want to escape centralization, it's truly suffocating

Microsoft's approach is really incredible, can't even install the system offline? --- That's why we insist on autonomy, it's so heartbreaking. --- Dystopian style, this term is used perfectly, Windows is really becoming more and more outrageous. --- Honestly, internet dependence has become a chain, there is no freedom at all. --- Installing a system depends on Microsoft's mood, who still dares to say users have a choice. --- Cannot start offline? Isn't this just a new form of forced control. --- No wonder Ethereum people find centralized systems disgusting, it's truly extreme. --- Privacy has been sold out long ago, now even basic autonomy has to be fought for.

Microsoft's approach is really incredible, not allowing system installation offline --- Getting stuck at the Microsoft server step, hilarious, this is the true meaning of Web3 --- Dystopia is indeed not wrong, I now want to build my own server --- Now I understand why developers are leaning towards decentralization; centralized systems are like this, users become hostages --- Once again, big companies lock users out; when will we truly own our own stuff --- The inability to start offline is, frankly, a matter of excessive control --- Developers complain, and that's used as an argument for Web3—circular reasoning, brother --- Windows is becoming more and more absurd; no wonder people have to maintain their own servers --- Needing to connect to Microsoft's servers... isn't that just kidnapping the user? --- Cannot install the system offline, which is a truly anti-human design

Microsoft is really getting more and more outrageous. Do I need to get server approval just to install a system? --- That's why I firmly support open-source systems. Once sovereignty is taken away, it can never be regained. --- Can't use offline? Then how do I tinker without internet? Are you brainless? --- Dystopia is described too accurately. The price of convenience is selling yourself to big corporations. --- So what Web3 needs to do is take back this power. Although it's still chaotic now, the direction is right. --- Reminds me of those "cloud system" promotions. Sounds wonderful, but in reality, it's just a scam. --- Why must there be online authentication? What about offline environments? Do I no longer have sovereignty? --- The tech community was discussing this passionately back then. I guess Microsoft needs to change this design. --- The significance of decentralized systems is right here: no need to kneel to use software.
