Recently, more people in the community have been asking whether the Altcoin Season will come, but looking at the market at the end of the year, I find it a bit hard to understand.
BTC now accounts for nearly 59% of the market share, holding steady in the 87k-88k range. Institutions are continuously increasing their positions through ETFs, acting like a standard safe-haven asset. What about those alternative tokens? The Altcoin Season Index is still hovering around 15-20, far from the 75 threshold that signals the start. Most altcoins have been left far behind by the market this year; only a few stand out—top coins like SOL and AI-related tokens occasionally emerge, but we haven't seen the large-scale capital shift like in the past.
Honestly, this cycle feels different from previous ones. When retail investors dominated, whenever BTC stabilized, funds would flow into smaller coins; now, it's different. Institutional money prefers BTC's liquidity and is quite picky about smaller tokens, leading to severe fragmentation. In the short term, this sideways movement might continue. To see a true broad Altcoin Season, we need to wait until BTC's dominance gradually loosens and market liquidity is further released. Maybe we’ll have to wait until next year for that.
What do you all think? Are you still betting on this cycle turning around, or do you think it’s just going to pass like this?
By the way, besides constantly monitoring the market, some people in the community are doing meaningful things. For example, some have shifted their focus to education and charity, establishing academy platforms that provide free courses worldwide. Recently, some communities have been promoting classroom projects and donation plans, which feel a bit warmer. If you're interested, check out these projects and support such valuable initiatives.
