Ethereum co-founder Vitalik recently reflected on the original intention of the "alternative network" in 2014. Over the years, Ethereum has completed the transition from PoW to PoS, and scalability solutions are continuously being advanced. Technologies like ZK-EVM and PeerDAS are gradually turning the old topic of "sharding" into reality.

Interestingly, he used Fileverse, a decentralized collaborative document tool, as an example. The core design philosophy of the project is the "walkaway test"—even if the development team stops maintenance, users can always retrieve data, export content, and continue using it. This idea actually reflects a deeper consideration: how should Web3 applications be designed to truly empower users.

From technical upgrades to application philosophy, this logical chain is very clear. It seems 2026 will be a key milestone.

The walkaway test is really brilliant, hitting the core pain point of Web3 in one shot, isn't it? How long has it taken to go from PoW to PoS? It feels like sharding has been just pie-in-the-sky promises. Can 2026 really break through? Projects like Fileverse are truly doing something, unlike some that only hype concepts. Speaking of which, Vitalik is still a thinker. Being able to go from technical details to product philosophy shows a wide range of thinking. They've already planned it out. Let's wait until 2026 to see. By then, we'll know if the hype was justified.

The walkaway test is brilliant. Basically, it means not to be hostage to the development team. Vitalik is still preaching, but this time he really hit the nail on the head. Is 2026 really that critical? It seems like every year is called a key milestone. But on the other hand, most Web3 applications can't even do this now, so we're still a long way from true empowerment. Sharding would be amazing if it really gets implemented; it's been so many years.

The walkaway test concept is really brilliant; at last, someone has explained decentralization clearly. --- From PoW to PoS, it feels like Vitalik has never stopped experimenting along the way. --- Honestly, there are very few Web3 applications today that truly empower users. --- Key milestone in 2026? Let's wait and see if this year's capacity expansion can be achieved first. --- The Fileverse example serves as a wake-up call for Web3 developers. --- The ideological evolution from an alternative network to empowering users over the past decade is quite interesting. --- Sharding has gone from a dream to reality, and the speed is faster than I expected. --- However, "even if the team stops maintenance, users can still use it" is still a pipe dream for most projects today. --- Seeing V哥 contemplating application philosophy indicates that Ethereum has moved beyond just technical showmanship. --- ZK-EVM and PeerDAS stacking, in the end, it's all about who can truly get it running.

The walkaway test concept is truly brilliant. This is what Web3 should look like—applications not hijacked by teams.
