Most conversations around the AI economy focus on usage tiers and API pricing structures—but that's not really an economy at all. It's just a rental system with gatekeepers.

A true economy needs to allow participation at the infrastructure level. That's where the actual value gets created and distributed.

Think about it differently: what if compute providers, model builders, and end users all operated within the same execution layer? No middlemen, no API rent extraction. Everyone contributes, everyone participates, everyone benefits. That's the kind of system that actually scales and creates real economic opportunity.

Well said. Currently, this API pricing is just a wolf in sheep's clothing, exploiting users under the guise of economics. Directly cutting out the middlemen is the real way to go.

Basically, it's just OpenAI's leasing business now, not really worthy of being called an economy.

Exactly right, the current API pricing system is indeed just a scam to fleece users.
