On January 30th, local time, U.S. President Trump reiterated at the White House that the U.S. is deploying more naval forces toward Iran than previously sent to Venezuela.

Trump stated that the U.S. hopes to reach an agreement with Iran, and if unable to do so, “we will see how the situation develops.”

Trump also said that the current situation in Venezuela is progressing smoothly, and that they are “getting along very well” with the local leadership.

On the 28th, Trump posted on social media that the aircraft carrier fleet “Abraham Lincoln” is heading toward Iran, and that this fleet is larger than the one sent to Venezuela. Iran should sit at the negotiation table promptly. There are also reports that Trump is “considering launching a new major strike against Iran.” Ali Shamkhani, a political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, said on the 28th that Iran will consider any military action from the U.S. as the start of war, and if the U.S. takes any military action, Iran will immediately carry out a comprehensive and unprecedented counterattack, targeting Israel’s core areas.
