A former South Korean police officer who was responsible for investigating cryptocurrency fraud cases was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 100 million KRW (approximately $78,000) for accepting a bribe of 120 million KRW (about $82,000) and obstructing the investigation. The court stated that the officer's actions severely damaged public trust. Previously, South Korea experienced a series of cryptocurrency-related incidents, including crimes involving cryptocurrency payments, poor digital asset custody management by authorities, and a major exchange error involving billions of Bitcoins. These events prompted South Korea's Finance Minister to pledge reforms in digital asset regulation.
