Alibaba's AI brand is fully unified under "Qianwen"

Phoenix Technology News, March 2 — Alibaba officially unified its AI business under the core brand name “Qwen” (English name). After this restructuring, the Qwen large model will serve as a unified name covering both foundational and specialized domain models. The Qwen app has been established as the flagship application for consumers, while Tongyi Laboratory is designated as the organizational name for Alibaba Group’s AI research institution.

In terms of open-source technology deployment, Alibaba released Qwen 3.5 on New Year’s Eve and subsequently launched several small to medium-sized Qwen 3.5 models. Data shows that this series of models currently ranks in the top four on the Hugging Face global open-source large model leaderboard based on various metrics.

Regarding consumer market data, the Qwen app handled nearly 200 million “one-sentence order” commands during the Spring Festival holiday. According to third-party data from QuestMobile, Qwen’s daily active users (DAU) during this period reached 73.52 million, representing a 940% increase, making it the fastest-growing AI application domestically.
