1. Explanation of the Broken Windows Theory:
In 1969, Stanford University psychologist (Philip Zimbardo) conducted an experiment: he took two identical cars, one parked in a middle-class neighborhood, and the other in a more chaotic area with the license plates removed and the roof open. As a result, the car in the chaotic area was stolen the same day, while the one in the middle-class neighborhood was ignored for a week. Later, he used a hammer to break the window of that car, and within just a few hours, it was gone.
The Broken Windows Theory illustrates that small problems in the environment, if not addressed promptly, send a signal that “no one cares here, rules don’t matter, and vandalism is okay.” This signal can trigger more serious destructive behaviors and negative phenomena, causing problems to snowball and grow larger. For example, indulging in an extra piece of cake or skipping exercise once might seem harmless, but once that first crack appears, the wall of self-discipline can easily collapse, and bad habits become harder to break. A stitch in time saves nine. When the first broken window appears in life, it’s actually a warning from fate: don’t take any “exceptions” lightly.
All collapses start with the first “Let it be” moment.
