Washington is preparing to deploy the third U.S. Navy strike group in the Middle East led by the nuclear aircraft carrier George HW Bush, reports USNI citing a statement from the U.S. Navy Fleet Command.

The ships have completed comprehensive exercises that all aircraft carrier strike groups must undergo before receiving approval to undertake larger-scale missions, and are now preparing for deployment to the region.

George HW Bush is equipped with two nuclear reactors, allowing the ship to operate virtually indefinitely without refueling. It can carry more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, including modern stealth fighters like the F-35.

Aircraft carriers Abraham Lincoln and Gerald R. Ford are already in the Middle East. The former is currently in the Arabian Sea, and the latter is in the Red Sea.
