Second earthquake in Mexico – series of tremors in Guerrero
In Mexico, in the southwestern region, a significant tremor has occurred again. According to an official statement from the National Seismological Institute, January 2nd brought another seismic experience for residents of Guerrero, when at 9:37 local time, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded.
Series of tremors in the western part of the country
Guerrero state, located in western Mexico, is an area with very high seismic activity. The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers, was not the only tremor in the region. Earlier, the same area experienced a much stronger quake with a magnitude of 6.5, also centered at a depth of 10 kilometers in the coastal zone of Guerrero.
Alerts in the capital and response from research institutes
Seismic shocks in Mexico immediately activated public safety systems. In Mexico City, the capital, a warning alarm was triggered, alerting residents to the potential danger. Authorities prepared for possible aftereffects of the earthquakes, and the National Seismological Institute continues to monitor the situation in Guerrero.
The series of earthquakes demonstrates how important seismic vigilance is in Mexico, especially in areas with a history of high volcanic and seismic activity. The preparation of alarm systems and quick institutional responses can be crucial for public safety.
