A new Gartner report reveals a significant disconnect: while CMOs recognize AI’s transformative potential for their jobs, most are not investing in the personal skills upgrades necessary to master it. This cognitive dissonance stems from viewing AI as merely an efficiency tool rather than a strategic growth driver, leading to low confidence from CEOs in their marketing leaders’ AI savviness and potentially putting CMO roles at risk. Gartner predicts that a lack of AI literacy will be a top reason large enterprise CMOs are replaced by 2027.
