According to Axios news website in the United States on August 8, the U.S. is dissatisfied with Israel Defense Forces’ attack on Iranian fuel storage facilities, believing that the Israeli military’s “strike was far beyond U.S. expectations” and could have the counterproductive effect of driving up oil prices. The report states that this is the “first major disagreement” since the U.S. and Israel launched military actions against Iran. The report quotes U.S. and Israeli officials as saying that the U.S. was “surprised” by the scope of the Israeli strikes and “does not think this is a good idea,” even expressing frustration with Israel’s actions. The U.S. is concerned that attacking Iran’s civilian infrastructure “could have strategic countereffects,” “unite Iranian society in support of the government,” and that “images of fuel storage facilities burning could disturb the oil market and further increase energy prices.” (Xinhua)
