The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in India has disclosed that Darwin Labs co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Ayush Varshney was arrested at Mumbai Airport for his alleged involvement in a cryptocurrency scam involving approximately $790 million (66.06 billion rupees) related to GainBitcoin. The investigation revealed that Darwin Labs was responsible for building the core technological infrastructure of the scheme, including the investor platform, GBMiners mining pool, payment gateway, and wallets. The scheme involved around 8,000 investors, who were falsely promised a 10% monthly Bitcoin return through Variabletech Pte. Ltd., and ultimately transferred assets into their issued MCAP tokens. The mastermind behind the case, Amit Bhardwaj, passed away in 2022. Indian authorities had conducted searches at over 60 locations related to the case in February 2025. (Cointelegraph)
