Aluminum prices have surged to their highest levels in 4 years.

Aluminium Bahrain (ALBA), the world's largest single-site aluminum smelter, has officially shut down 19% of its total production capacity.

The factory continues to produce metal, but the produced metal is physically stuck within the country because ships cannot pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

This is a major development for the global market:

The Middle East supplies 9% of global aluminum supply.

More than 5 million tons of metal are now stuck behind the blockade.
