Liu Wenxiang Spicy Hot Pot: Requires Related Stores to Suspend Operations for Rectification, Some Cancel Franchisee Contracts

According to Fujian Radio and Television’s “First Help Group,” reporters found that Liu Wenxiang Spicy Hot Pot has been using substandard ingredients in many of its stores across Fujian.

At a store in Xiamen, the beef roll listed on the delivery platform as beef/beef, and staff also claimed it was beef, but the product packaging showed it was duck meat. At a store in Zhangzhou, staff told customers that black pepper meat strips, Minnan meat soup, and oyster sauce meat slices were pork, and the beef roll was beef. However, after checking the ingredient list in the kitchen, the main ingredients of these items were found to be duck meat.

Additionally, some stores’ fire-grilled beef steaks and spicy meat slices, labeled as beef or pork on online platforms, were admitted by store staff to actually be duck meat. These stores’ delivery sales reach thousands of orders per month. There was also an oyster sauce meat slice listed as chicken on one platform and duck on another.

According to suppliers, these stores purchase ingredients independently. Pure beef rolls cost 28 yuan per jin, while duck meat rolls are only 7 yuan per jin. Some merchants choose duck meat to pursue higher profits.

On the evening of March 14, market regulation departments in multiple regions launched inspections of Liu Wenxiang stores. Some stores involved have been asked to immediately rectify the issues.

On March 15, Jiupai News contacted a staff member at Liu Wenxiang Spicy Hot Pot, who confirmed awareness of the rectification efforts. They explained that the reports involved only a few stores, which have been ordered to cease operations and undergo rectification. Some contracts with franchisees have been canceled, and cooperation has been halted. The staff also mentioned that Liu Wenxiang Hot Pot conducts inspections of thousands of stores nationwide every year, “checking each one.”

On the same day, a reporter called the Xiamen Market Supervision and Administration Bureau consumer complaint hotline. The operator said they are aware of the relevant online information and will handle it according to law.

Previously, local market regulation authorities stated they will strictly investigate and punish acts of counterfeiting and false advertising, and will conduct a comprehensive sweep of all chain stores in the area.
