Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the 15th saying that Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian stated that the insecurity of the Strait of Hormuz and the entire region is due to “US and Israeli aggression,” and Iran’s defensive actions should not be seen as attacks on other regional countries.

The statement said that Abdollahian and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna exchanged views by phone on the evening of the 14th regarding US and Israeli military actions and the current regional situation. Abdollahian said that countries should respond responsibly to the current situation, condemn US and Israeli military actions, and avoid actions that could escalate conflicts or expand the situation.

Abdollahian reiterated that Iran firmly defends national sovereignty, security, dignity, and territorial integrity. Iran’s defensive actions are solely aimed at military bases and facilities of aggressors in the region and should not be viewed as attacks on other regional countries.

He also said that the insecurity in the entire region, including Lebanon, stems from Israeli aggression and expansion. He emphasized that Lebanon must end the occupation, cease attacks, and stop aggression to achieve peace.

In an interview with The New Arab based in London, Abdollahian said that Iran’s strikes mainly target US bases and interests in the region, as a response to attacks from these bases, and do not involve civilians or residential areas.

He also said that the US has manufactured a drone called “Lucas” that is identical to Iran’s “Shahad” drone, used to strike Arab targets. Israel may have played a role in some attacks targeting civilians, aiming to damage Iran’s relations with these countries.

He further revealed that Iran continues to maintain diplomatic contacts with neighboring countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, and that diplomatic communication has not been interrupted. Several countries are working to mediate and propose solutions to ease tensions and end the war.

The report quoted an anonymous military officer saying that the IDF had planned its military actions against Iran months in advance. They had prepared enough interceptors and were ready for a “long-term war” with Iran over several weeks. Currently, the actual number of interceptors used in operations is “less than expected.”

US and Israel’s military strikes on Iran affect US agriculture

Since the US and Israel launched military strikes against Iran, tensions in the Middle East have continued to escalate. Many American farmers and agricultural workers are worried that the conflict will cause fluctuations in the US agricultural market prices, disrupt the spring planting plans, and seriously impact this year’s US crop yields and farm income.

It is currently spring planting season in the Northern Hemisphere. Reuters cited data from the American Fertilizer Institute, noting that the US heavily relies on imports for fertilizer, with about half of the urea fertilizer used annually coming from abroad in some years. Currently, US urea supplies for spring planting are short by about a quarter.

The Strait of Hormuz accounts for about one-third of global fertilizer shipping. After the US and Israel attacked Iran, global trade was disrupted, causing fertilizer prices to rise by one-third. Analysts pointed out that some fertilizers originally destined for the US are being sold to other regions where buyers are offering higher prices.
