According to reports, ByteDance has temporarily suspended its global launch plan for Soudance 2.0
Insight Web News: On March 15, ByteDance announced that it has decided to temporarily suspend the global release plan for its next-generation AI video generation model, Seedance 2.0, mainly due to series of copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms.
According to publicly available information, Disney and Skydance, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures, have sent legal notices to ByteDance, accusing it of using copyrighted works without permission during the training of Seedance 2.0 and demanding an end to the infringement. The controversy centers around highly realistic AI video clips, such as user-generated virtual fights between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, raising industry-wide concerns about deepfake technology and portrait rights.
Information indicates that Seedance 2.0 was launched in the Chinese market in February of this year and was originally scheduled for global release in mid-March. The model supports multimodal inputs including text, images, audio, and video, targeting professional film, e-commerce, and advertising sectors.
In response to the legal pressure, ByteDance has urgently adjusted its feature strategy, suspending support for users uploading real-person images or videos as references, and has promised to implement stricter security measures to prevent the use of unauthorized IP.
