People’s Financial News, March 15 — On March 15, 2026, the Consumer Rights Protection Professional Committee of the China Insurance Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) held a special symposium on “Clear and Bright Financial Networks, Safeguarding Peace of Mind in Consumption” for insurance consumer rights protection in Beijing. The meeting focused on the requirements of the Financial Regulatory Authority’s 2026 work plan for financial consumer rights protection, with the goal of “serving the industry well, assisting regulation effectively, and contributing to society.” It aimed to clarify practical pathways for the industry’s consumer protection work throughout the year and to build consensus within the industry.

The meeting was convened and hosted by the leading unit of the Committee, Taikang Insurance Group, with representatives from 20 standing committee units including PICC Group, China Life Group, Sunshine Group, New China Insurance, and others. The meeting conveyed the spirit of the 2026 financial consumer protection work conference held by the Financial Regulatory Authority, emphasizing the need for the Committee to deeply understand the new deployment for financial consumer protection in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. It reaffirmed the commitment to the principle of putting people first, with the fundamental goal of meeting the public’s aspirations for a better life, accurately aligning with the diversified needs of financial services and rights protection in the new era, and transforming regulatory requirements into concrete actions that reflect the political and people-oriented nature of financial work.

During the meeting, PICC Property & Casualty and China Life shared their achievements and innovative practices in consumer protection. Participating units engaged in in-depth exchanges on challenges such as appropriate management of insurance product suitability, governance of black and gray market activities in finance, service process optimization, and comprehensive complaint handling. They shared practical experiences, explored solutions together, and proposed pragmatic suggestions, providing valuable references for building a comprehensive consumer protection system across the industry.

The meeting also formulated the annual implementation plan for the Committee’s consumer protection work, clarified next steps to optimize work mechanisms, strengthened platform coordination and industry self-discipline, and promoted the development of a consumer protection system led by regulation, coordinated by associations, implemented by institutions, and supervised by society.

Focusing on the key priorities of the Financial Regulatory Authority, the meeting emphasized two main aspects: first, encouraging the industry to increase digital financial services for the public, especially for the elderly and new employment groups, to improve financial literacy and bridge the digital divide; second, strengthening risk alerts against online marketing scams, illegal proxy withdrawals, excessive collection of personal information, and other irregularities, while streamlining channels for consumer complaints and improving dispute resolution efficiency.

This symposium is an important practical step for the Committee to implement the requirements of the Financial Regulatory Authority’s consumer protection work and to fulfill industry collaboration responsibilities. It lays a solid foundation for the 2026 insurance industry consumer protection efforts. Moving forward, the Committee will continue to coordinate with member units, turn consensus into concrete actions, and take more solid measures to ensure the effective implementation of consumer protection tasks. The goal is to enhance insurance consumers’ sense of gain, happiness, and security, contribute to creating a clean and orderly financial market environment, promote high-quality development of the insurance industry, and serve the overall goal of China’s modernization.
