The issue of the Strait of Hormuz being blocked remains unresolved. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated on Friday (13th) that Iran’s actions in the Strait reflect “extreme desperation.” The U.S. government has been addressing the matter, and the market “does not need to worry about it.”

Hegseth also said that Iran has threatened for decades to obstruct shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. “This is their usual tactic, using the strait as a hostage,” and the government has developed plans for potential disruptions in maritime traffic. However, he emphasized that they “hope to proceed in an order that best achieves our objectives,” without revealing specific operational plans.

“We have a plan to address every option here. We are working with interagency partners. This is not a strait where we allow disputes or lack of commercial cargo flow to persist. We are highly focused on military objectives, but also want to ensure our government partners understand that we are working with you to ensure energy flow—this is an important part.”
