Argentine President Milei allegedly involved in profiting $5 million through promoting LIBRA token
ChainCatcher reports that, according to Argentine media El Destape, forensic investigators extracted an unreleased document from intermediary Mauricio Novelli’s phone, detailing a payment agreement for the Libra token scam totaling $5 million, primarily pointing to Argentine President Milei.
The document shows the agreement was divided into three payments: an initial $1.5 million in tokens or cash as a prepayment; a second $1.5 million payment contingent on Milei announcing Hayden Davis (CEO of Kelsier Ventures) as his advisor on Twitter; and a final $2 million payment conditional on Milei signing a face-to-face contract with his sister Karina regarding blockchain/AI government consulting. The document was created on February 11, 2025, three days before Milei posted related tweets and the Libra token launch.
Call records also drew attention. The forensic report indicates that Milei had multiple calls with Novelli within minutes before and after the tweets, and his sister Karina also contacted frequently; after the token price plummeted that evening, Milei’s advisor Santiago Caputo joined a late-night call, with records showing ongoing coordination among parties to respond to the crisis.
