Apple tvOS 26.4 Preview: Subtitle Adjustment Optimization, Audio Interruption Fixes, Removal of iTunes Movies and TV Shows App
IT House, February 26 — Technology media 9to5Mac published a blog post yesterday (February 25) summarizing the new features and updates in the upcoming tvOS 26.4 update, expected to be released next month. The update mainly brings three adjustments for Apple TV 4K users.
Native Video Player Subtitle Appearance Optimization
Previously, users had to go deep into “Accessibility” settings to adjust subtitles. Now, after enabling or disabling subtitles within the player, users can directly access the new “Style” menu. The system offers four preset options: Classic, Large Text, Outline Text, and Transparent Background.
Additionally, clicking the “Manage Styles” button will take users to the settings interface to create personalized subtitles. However, this convenient feature only works with apps that use the default tvOS player and does not support third-party streaming platforms with custom players.
Audio Settings
Apple has added a new “Continuous Audio Connection” option in the audio settings. Users can enable this feature by navigating to “Settings,” then “Video and Audio,” and “Audio Format,” under the HDMI output menu.
This technology uses the Dolby MAT connection protocol to seamlessly transition between different audio formats. Turning this on can significantly improve compatibility between Apple TV and third-party speakers like Sonos, helping to resolve audio output issues encountered during daily use.
Official Removal of Standalone iTunes Movies and TV Shows Apps
The Apple TV app has long included the core functions of these standalone apps, so this integration aligns with market expectations. To support this deprecation, Apple has recently notified users that the iTunes “Wish List” feature will soon be discontinued.
To prevent data loss, users are advised to manually transfer their existing wish list content to the “Watchlist” within the Apple TV app before tvOS 26.4 officially launches.
