'Marty Supreme': Timothée Chalamet's Oscar-Buzz Film To Release In UAE During Eid Weekend
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Just days after the excitement of the 98th Academy Awards, one of the year’s most talked-about films is set to arrive in UAE theatres. Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, releases across the region on March 19, landing in cinemas just in time for the Eid long weekend.
The film, which has been widely discussed this awards season, arrives with significant momentum. Chalamet - who has already picked up both a Golden Globe Awards and a Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actor - leads the nine-time Oscar-nominated picture in what many critics describe as one of the most energetic performances of his career.

About Marty Supreme
At the centre of the story is Marty Mauser, a fast-talking New York dreamer with unhinged ambition. Set in 1952, the character finds himself working as a shoe salesman in his uncle’s modest Lower East Side shop, a life that hardly resonates with the audacity of his dreams. But Marty begins to see an unlikely escape route in an overlooked sport: table tennis.
For him, the game becomes more than a pastime. It is a way out from the expectations of family, society and a world that often tells him to stay in his lane.
The challenge, of course, is that table tennis in post-war America is hardly considered a path to fame. To most people around him, Marty’s dream borders on absurd but he takes every obstacle in his stride. What follows is the unlikely, unfolding journey of a man determined to become ‘Marty Supreme’.
“Marty is an ambitious young man who wants to be recognised as the greatest table tennis player in the world,” says Chalamet.“While he may actually be the greatest in the world, by way of his circumstances and the place he finds himself in life, he also happens to be a petty young adult on the Lower East Side of Manhattan at the dawn of the 1950s, when the story opens.”
Behind the camera, filmmaker Josh Safdie brings his trademark high-energy storytelling style to the project. The film marks Safdie’s seventh feature and builds on a directing career that began with The Pleasure of Being Robbed, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
The film also features a notable ensemble cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, Fran Drescher, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Emory Cohen.
Meanwhile, Odessa A’zion delivers what viewers are calling a breakout performance as Rachel, Marty’s charismatic and unpredictable girlfriend.
With its mix of ambition, underdog trope and sporting drama, the film is expected to be one of the standout theatrical releases of the Eid holiday weekend.
Marty Supreme arrives in UAE cinemas on March 19.
