Trump Says US Military Will Launch "Massive Airstrike" on Iran Next Week, Refuses to Discuss "Island Seizure"
U.S. President Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News on the 13th that the U.S. military will carry out a “heavy airstrike” against Iran next week. He refused to comment on whether the U.S. intends to seize Iran’s oil export hub, Kharg Island.
During the interview, Trump reiterated that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely damaged and will take years to rebuild. He said the current U.S. focus is on destroying Iran’s missiles and drones, and that the U.S. is targeting Iran’s drone manufacturing plants.
Trump also stated that the U.S. does not need Ukrainian counter-drone technology to defend against Iranian drones.
According to recent reports from Axios, as military actions against Iran continue, the U.S. is considering seizing Kharg Island. Located in the Persian Gulf, the island is Iran’s largest oil export hub, responsible for handling 90% of Iran’s national oil exports. When asked about this during the Fox interview on the 13th, Trump declined to answer.
Trump also reiterated that if necessary, the U.S. military will escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
