Abstract generation in progress

Recently, the Fuling Branch of the People’s Bank of China provided special services for an elderly person, including the identification, testing, and exchange of damaged and soiled banknotes, helping the elderly recover 30,100 yuan in losses.

It is understood that this elderly person is 72 years old, living in Shitou Town, Fuling District. He saved over 30,000 yuan in cash through frugal living, but due to poor storage, the banknotes were severely damaged.

After learning the situation, staff from the Fuling Branch of the People’s Bank of China immediately activated their contingency plan, organized staff from the Agricultural Bank of China’s Fuling Branch, and brought professional equipment to visit the elderly at home to carry out identification, testing, and exchange services. Following relevant regulations and procedures such as splicing, sorting, and identification, the staff successfully helped the elderly recover a total of 30,100 yuan.

On-site exchange scene

Reporters learned that many citizens, especially the elderly, tend to store cash at home for emergencies. To prevent theft, they often hide cash in concealed places, which can easily lead to money being “lost” due to forgetfulness. Additionally, poor storage conditions and improper handling often cause banknotes to become damp, moldy, or torn, leading to damage caused by improper preservation of RMB.

The Currency and Gold & Silver Department of the Fuling Branch of the People’s Bank of China reminds the public: to ensure the safety of funds, residents holding large amounts of cash are advised to deposit it into a bank promptly to avoid damage or loss due to improper storage. If RMB banknotes are damaged or soiled due to fire, insect infestation, mold, or other special reasons, and affect normal use, they can consult and apply for exchange at designated financial institutions of the branches of the People’s Bank of China. These institutions will handle the exchange free of charge in accordance with the “Measures for the Exchange of Damaged and Soiled RMB” issued by the People’s Bank of China. If there are disputes over the exchange results, holders can apply for identification at the local branch of the People’s Bank of China in accordance with the law.
