Most lottery players would consider themselves very lucky if they won once, but a 73-year-old retired taxi driver in Canada has already won the lottery three times.

According to reports, Marcel Leclair from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, recently went to the OLG Prize Center to claim a top prize of 88,888 CAD (approximately 447,373 RMB). This was his third lottery jackpot win after decades of playing.

In 2017, Leclair won 1 million CAD (about 5.03 million RMB) in the Lotto 6/49 Encore prize. Reflecting on his first win, he said he initially thought he had won 1,000 USD until he noticed many zeros after the number. He used that prize money to fulfill his dream of traveling west and touring the country.

In 2025, he went to the OLG Prize Center to claim his largest jackpot yet—3 million CAD (about 15.1 million RMB). “It’s amazing because I only paid 30 CAD for that ticket,” Leclair recalled. It was a scratch-off platinum ticket he bought simply because it looked shiny and caught his eye. He used the money to buy a house and live with his family.

Less than a year later, he returned to the OLG Prize Center to claim his third jackpot. Talking about his third win, he said he’s a hockey fan and his favorite player is number 88. “I saw number 88 on this ticket, so I decided to buy it.” That decision earned him 88,888 CAD (about 447,373 RMB). “I was completely stunned,” Leclair said. “Although this is my third lottery jackpot, the feeling was just as strong as the first time. I told my brother, and he was very happy for me.”

Leclair plans to use the prize money to buy a new house and add new furniture, with the remaining funds saved.

Regarding his three-time jackpot wins, Leclair said, “This is really amazing. I feel very lucky.”
