South Korean electrical equipment manufacturer LS Electric Co. announced on Wednesday that it will invest 250 billion KRW ($1.68 billion) to expand its switchgear manufacturing plant in the United States, aiming to strengthen its position in the North American market.

The company currently operates two switchgear factories in the U.S.—one in MCM Engineering II in Utah and another in Busterup, Texas. LS Electric stated in a press release that the new investment will be used to triple the capacity of the Utah plant by 2030.

The expansion project has secured property tax incentives from the Utah Inland Port Authority.

Last year, LS Electric announced plans to invest a total of 3.5 trillion KRW in its U.S. operations to establish a localized value chain covering sales, planning, manufacturing, and service.

In addition to its existing offices in Chicago and Los Angeles, the company plans to open two new offices in Texas and Georgia in the first quarter to support sales and enhance customer service.
