Ministry of Ecology and Environment: Strengthen In-Process and Post-Construction Supervision of Environmental Impact Assessments for Nuclear Power Plants to Ensure Nuclear Power Projects Comply with All Legal Requirements and Standards for Ecological and Environmental Protection
People’s Financial News, March 20 — On March 20, Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu presided over an executive meeting of the ministry to review and approve in principle the environmental impact reports (site selection phase) and site safety analysis reports for Units 3 and 4 of Zhejiang Jin Qimen Nuclear Power Plant and the Phase III project of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant. The meeting emphasized that nuclear safety is the lifeline of nuclear development and an important part of national security. We must always prioritize strict safety, enforce legal supervision, promote effective operation of the nuclear safety responsibility system and quality management system, and achieve a positive interaction between high-level nuclear safety and high-quality nuclear development. We should continuously promote technological integration and design optimization, focus on strengthening data accumulation, improve manufacturing processes and testing methods for key equipment, enhance the maturity of plant design and system equipment reliability, and drive quality and efficiency improvements in nuclear power construction through standardized design and mass production. Additionally, we need to strengthen supervision of environmental impact assessments for nuclear power plants during and after construction, urge operating units to implement regulatory requirements, and ensure that nuclear projects comply with all environmental laws and standards.
