Practical Guide: Steps for PI KYC Approval
PI KYC identity verification is an essential process for any user who wants to fully participate in the Pi Network ecosystem. Although often described as simple, many users encounter challenges during the validation process. This comprehensive guide will provide all the necessary information to understand and successfully complete your PI KYC approval.
Pi is a cryptocurrency developed by Stanford researchers that has reached over 47 million participants worldwide. The project introduces an innovative approach to cryptocurrency mining, allowing anyone to participate directly on their smartphone. PI KYC validation is a crucial step that enables miners to transfer their coins to the mainnet and conduct real transactions with their accumulated balances.
Prerequisites and Criteria for PI KYC Approval
Before starting the identity verification process, you must meet specific requirements set by Pi Network. These criteria ensure the security and legitimacy of the network while keeping the process accessible to all qualified participants.
The first and most basic requirement is to be at least 18 years old. Pi Network requires proof of age to comply with international regulations. You will need an official government-issued ID, which can be a passport (highly recommended by the community), driver’s license, or national ID card. It is crucial to have the original physical copy on hand during the process, as you will need to photograph the document in real-time—not just submit a previously saved image.
Facial recognition is also a critical component of PI KYC approval. The system will perform a liveness check requiring you to position your device’s front camera directly in front of your face. The camera will automatically capture a photo to confirm you are the actual owner of the submitted ID. Make sure your face is clearly visible and matches the appearance on the document.
There is also an important time requirement: you must have been mining Pi for at least 30 days before requesting validation. This period does not need to be consecutive, but any new participant who recently installed the Pi Network app must wait through this mandatory waiting period.
Detailed Identity Validation Process
The PI KYC validation process can be completed in approximately 5 to 10 minutes, depending on factors such as camera quality, lighting, and document clarity. To begin, you first need to have the Pi Browser app installed on your device (available on Google Play Store or Apple App Store).
Open the main Pi Network app and navigate to the Mainnet section, found in the side menu. In the Mainnet checklist tab, complete all assigned tasks until you reach the one that says “Submit your identity application.” After completing these preliminary steps, the validation option will unlock automatically. Tap on the application tab to start, or manually navigate to the “kyc.pi” area within the Pi Browser if you encounter any issues.
On the initial validation screen, you will be prompted to select your country from a dropdown menu. It is critical to choose the country that matches your government-issued ID. Then, select the type of document you will use—passports generally yield the best recognition results.
You will then see a series of four educational slides providing detailed instructions on how to properly position the ID, which angle to use, and how to proceed through the flow. Read each slide carefully before moving forward, as these guidelines are essential for successful capture.
When you reach the “Add front photo” option, tap to activate your device’s camera. Take a clear photo of the front side of your ID. If the document has a back with essential information, take a photo of the back as well. Keep your device in landscape orientation to capture the best image possible—this is recommended to optimize processing.
After submitting the document images, you will be directed to a digital form. This form will ask you to manually enter the same data found on your ID. Fields include: first name, middle name (optional), last name, gender, date of birth, ID number, expiration date, and country of residence. Carefully verify each entry, as inconsistencies between the document and the form may cause rejection.
The final step involves liveness verification. When you click “I’m Ready,” your front camera will activate automatically. Hold the device in front of your face, ensuring your face is clearly visible for the system to capture. This step confirms you are a real person responsible for the application.
Monitoring Status and Troubleshooting
After submitting your application, the wait time for a decision can vary significantly. In ideal scenarios with enough validators in your location and clear documentation, approval can come within a few hours. However, in many cases, approval may take several days or even weeks.
To check your current validation status, access your profile in the Pi Network app. A green checkmark next to the “Identity Verification” (PI KYC) section indicates successful approval. If you see a loading animation, it means your application is still under review and awaiting processing. You can also check the status via the Mainnet section—when the “Awaiting Results” tab turns green, your validation has been confirmed.
If your application is rejected, it is usually because the photo ID was not clear enough or the automated system could not extract critical details such as your face, name, or country. When this happens, you will be prompted to re-upload the ID photo or a new liveness selfie. In rare cases where the form contains inconsistent information, you may need to correct the data and resubmit.
A key note: some users report that even after approval, the checklist tab does not change color in the Pi Network app. This is often an issue with the app itself and does not reflect the actual validation status. To confirm your approval is genuine, rely primarily on the PI KYC status within the Pi Browser, which is more accurate in showing the final status.
How the Pi Network Validator System Works
The review mechanism behind PI KYC approval is innovative and decentralized. Considering the massive size of the Pi community, it would be logistically impossible for the central team to review each identity application manually. In response, the network developed a collaborative validation model.
When you submit your documents, the application is forwarded for review by users who have already completed and been approved in their own identity verifications (network validators). After this initial review, the application is transmitted to a second independent validator, also KYC-approved. If your application passes both validators’ reviews, you receive final approval.
The system prioritizes assigning validators who are citizens of your own country or region, which significantly speeds up the process and makes the verification more culturally relevant. Each application you submit for review incurs a fee of 1 PI coin, which is distributed as a reward to validators for their time and effort. This incentive model helps maintain the quality of the validation process while rewarding engaged participants.
Pi Network maintains official documentation on all aspects of the identity validation process. For full legal obligations, technical questions, or updates on changes to requirements, you can consult the official PI KYC FAQ page on the Pi Network website.
