BYD Fast Charging Offers Optimal Solution as Fuel Prices Return to 9 Yuan Era?

With tensions rising in some regions, international oil prices have recently surged significantly. Domestic refined oil prices are set to increase again at 24:00 on March 23. Many institutions predict that in most parts of the country, 92-octane gasoline will return to the “9-yuan era.” For gasoline vehicle owners, filling up a 50L tank will cost over a hundred yuan more than before.

In response to this energy shock, BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu issued an early warning at the “Second Generation Blade Battery and Fast Charging Technology” launch event in early March: “Over 70% of China’s oil depends on imports, a significant portion of which is transported through the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Malacca. Additionally, 70% of the country’s oil is used in transportation. The current situation poses a severe challenge to national energy security.” He emphasized, “Replacing fuel vehicles with new energy vehicles is never a choice but a necessary answer related to national energy security and long-term development.”

Faced with this “necessary answer,” BYD offers the optimal solution with its “Second Generation Blade Battery and Fast Charging Technology.” Pure electric models have zero fuel consumption and are completely unaffected by oil price fluctuations, fundamentally eliminating the impact of fuel price volatility.

What does it mean for fuel vehicle owners and pure electric vehicle owners if oil prices return to the 9-yuan era? Let’s take an example of driving 20,000 kilometers annually to clarify the economic impact.

For fuel vehicle owners, assuming a real fuel consumption of 7.5L per 100 km and 92-octane gasoline at 9 yuan per liter, the annual fuel cost reaches 13,500 yuan. This means that just for refueling, over 1,000 yuan is spent each month. In contrast, BYD’s second-generation blade battery-powered pure electric vehicles can have a range of over 1,000 km, requiring less than 20 charging sessions per year. Even with fast charging each time, the electricity cost is less than 4,000 yuan, saving nearly 10,000 yuan annually compared to fuel vehicles. Currently, buyers can even enjoy up to one year of free fast charging.

Moreover, the fast-charging models equipped with BYD’s second-generation blade batteries have achieved a charging experience comparable to refueling: “charging as fast as refueling” and “experience as good as refueling.” At room temperature, 5 minutes of charging can reach 70%, and 9 minutes can reach 97%. Even in extremely cold environments at -30°C, charging time only increases by 3 minutes.

BYD’s technological breakthroughs in pure electric vehicles will lead to comprehensive surpassing of fuel vehicles in terms of charging cost, efficiency, and experience, further accelerating the electrification development.

If saving money is just a “small ledger” for users, energy security is a “big ledger” for the country. Wang Chuanfu has repeatedly emphasized: “China is a country with few oil resources and abundant electricity.” Replacing imported oil with electric power resources is the only way to fundamentally solve the energy security dilemma. Every disturbance in the Strait of Hormuz reminds us that the energy supply must be in our own hands. When fuel bills repeatedly break psychological thresholds, BYD’s answer is: using fast charging technology to make charging cheaper, faster, and with a better experience than refueling.
