Legislative Council Election Committee Member Chen Shao-hung has been on sick leave for nearly a month. After returning to Hong Kong from Australia on the fifth day, today (23rd), he officially resumed work and attended committee meetings. In an interview with our newspaper, Chen Shao-hung expressed gratitude for society’s concern multiple times, refused to disclose his illness, but indicated that his recovery is going well. He quoted his doctor as saying that parliamentary work is mainly desk work, and he believes his physical condition allows him to return to work.

This afternoon, after attending the Environment Affairs Committee, Chen Shao-hung was interviewed by reporters. He said his current condition is quite good, and his recovery is satisfactory. After consulting his doctor, he believes he can engage in parliamentary work. When asked if his doctor advised him to reduce his workload, he quoted his doctor as saying that since parliamentary work is mainly desk work, his current physical condition permits him to return to parliamentary duties, and he will prioritize tasks based on urgency.

Chen Shao-hung repeatedly thanked society for their concern and emphasized that the most important thing is to take care of his health. “Nothing is a problem; health is the most important.” However, he refused to disclose the cause of his illness, saying, “The most important thing is to look forward. The key now is that my recovery and rehabilitation are progressing well and ideally. I hope to maintain this current state.”

It is understood that at the end of February, Chen Shao-hung was hospitalized in Australia due to a sudden illness and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Legislative Council President Regina Ip last Wednesday (18th) revealed that Chen Shao-hung was cared for by local medical teams, his condition was gradually improving, and he was in good shape. He returned to Hong Kong on the same day and is currently resting at home following medical advice.
