Our country's average daily call volume of word units exceeds 140 trillion.

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 24 (Reporter Gao Kang) — Liu Liehong, Director of the National Data Bureau, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office that by March this year, China’s daily token (Token) call volume has exceeded 140 trillion, more than 1,000 times the 100 billion at the beginning of 2024. Compared to the 100 trillion expected by the end of 2025, it has grown by over 40% in just three months.

“The massive increase in daily token call volume clearly indicates that China’s artificial intelligence development has entered a rapid growth phase.” Liu Liehong said that AI application scenarios are continuously deepening, from conversational to decision-making and execution intelligent agents. The competitiveness of China’s AI industry is significantly strengthening. The currently popular token overseas expansion is a sign of this increased industry competitiveness.

According to Liu Liehong, through joint efforts, China has achieved phased results in building high-quality datasets. By the end of 2025, more than 100,000 high-quality datasets will have been established nationwide, with a total volume exceeding 890 petabytes, roughly 310 times the total digital resources of the National Library of China.

Next, the National Data Bureau will continue to promote data-driven AI innovation and development, collaborate with all parties to implement a new round of high-quality dataset construction action plans, driven by scenario needs, accelerate pilot and trial work, and create AI-Ready high-quality datasets that are technically feasible, practical, convenient, and quality-assured, to achieve a qualitative and quantitative increase in high-quality dataset supply.
