Google "Find" Ecosystem Update: Users Can Share Tracker Information with Airlines to Quickly Recover Lost Luggage
Tech Home, March 4 — On Tuesday, Google announced a series of new features for the Android ecosystem and simultaneously launched the March software update “Pixel Drop” for Pixel phones. One of the most notable updates is that Android users can now share tracker information compatible with “Find Hub” with airlines to help locate lost luggage.
According to Google, if users place a Find Hub-compatible tracker on their luggage, they can select the lost item in the Find Hub app, tap “Share Item Location” to generate a unique and secure URL link. Users can then copy and paste this link into participating airline apps or websites to enable real-time luggage tracking during transit.
Google states that the link will automatically expire after seven days, and once the phone detects the luggage has returned to the user, the location sharing feature will automatically deactivate.
More than 10 global airlines currently accept location information shared via Find Hub as part of their luggage recovery process, including Turkish Airlines and Ajet, Air India, China Airlines, Lufthansa Group (including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines), Saudi Airlines, and Scandinavian Airlines. Google plans to establish partnerships with more airlines in the future.
In addition to luggage tracking, this update also covers location sharing, personalized calls, app discovery, in-car education, and more:
Google Messages real-time location sharing: Android users can now share their real-time location directly within Google Messages, allowing both parties to see each other’s locations on a map within the chat interface.
Google Play short video feed: Google Play Store introduces a short video feed to help users discover new apps and learn about their features without leaving the app.
Personalized call “Calling Cards”: The Google Phone app introduces the “Calling Cards” feature, allowing users to customize the display style of incoming calls from contacts, similar to iPhone’s “Contact Poster” feature.
Android Auto educational content for children: Android Auto adds educational and entertainment experiences for children aged 3 to 12, aiming to help kids learn through games.
As part of Pixel Drop, Google will bring several exclusive updates to Pixel devices:
“Circle Search” clothing recognition feature: Circle Search now includes “Find the Look,” which can identify clothing items in photos or videos. The new “Try It On” feature can extract outfits from videos, social media content, or images received via messages, allowing users to visually experience how clothes look when worn.
“At a Glance” widget upgrade: The widget now provides real-time traffic updates on the home and lock screens, displays live scores of all followed teams, and shows price changes from Google Finance watchlists.
Pixel Watch anti-lost and gesture controls: The Pixel Watch now features a phone-lost reminder that alerts users when the watch and phone are out of Bluetooth range. It can also automatically lock the phone when the user walks away to prevent unauthorized access. Pixel Watch 3 users can answer calls, take photos, or pause workouts using gestures like double-pinching or wrist rotation for one-handed operation.
