China Insurance Industry Association Consumer Protection Committee Holds 3.15 Insurance Consumer Rights Protection Thematic Seminar

On March 15, 2026, the Consumer Rights Protection Professional Committee of the China Insurance Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) held a special symposium on “Clear and Bright Financial Networks, Safeguarding Peace of Mind in Consumption” in Beijing. The meeting closely followed the requirements of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission’s 2026 financial consumer rights protection work, focusing on the work goal of “serving the industry well, assisting regulation effectively, and contributing to society.” It clarified practical pathways for the industry’s consumer protection work throughout the year and fostered industry consensus. The meeting was convened and hosted by the leading unit of the Committee, Taikang Insurance Group, with representatives from 20 standing committee units and member units, including PICC Group, China Life Group, Sunshine Group, and New China Insurance.

The meeting conveyed the spirit of the 2026 financial consumer protection work conference of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, requiring the Committee to deeply understand the new deployment of financial consumer protection work in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. It emphasized the importance of always adhering to the people-first philosophy, with the fundamental goal of meeting the people’s aspirations for a better life, accurately aligning with the diversified needs of financial services and rights protection in the new era, and effectively transforming regulatory requirements into concrete actions that reflect the political and people-oriented nature of financial work.

At the meeting, PICC Property & Casualty and China Life shared their achievements and innovative practices in consumer protection. Participating units engaged in in-depth exchanges on challenges such as insurance product suitability management, governance of black and gray market activities in the financial sector, service process optimization, and comprehensive complaint management. They learned from each other’s practical experiences, discussed solutions collaboratively, and proposed pragmatic suggestions, providing valuable practical references for building a comprehensive consumer protection system across the industry.

The meeting formulated the annual implementation plan for the Committee’s consumer protection work, clarified next steps to optimize work mechanisms, strengthened platform links and industry self-discipline, and promoted the development of a consumer protection system led by regulation, coordinated by associations, implemented by institutions, and supervised by society. It also focused on key tasks of the regulatory authority, including increasing efforts to promote digital financial services for people’s livelihoods, especially for the elderly and new employment groups, to bridge the digital divide; and strengthening risk alerts related to online financial marketing scams, illegal proxy withdrawals, and excessive collection of personal information. The meeting emphasized improving channels for consumer complaints and enhancing dispute resolution efficiency.

This symposium is an important practical step for the Committee to implement the regulatory requirements of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission on consumer protection and to fulfill industry collaboration responsibilities. It laid a solid foundation for the insurance industry’s consumer protection work in 2026. Moving forward, the Committee will continue to coordinate with member units, translate consensus from the meeting into concrete actions, and take more solid measures to ensure the effective implementation of consumer protection tasks. This will genuinely enhance insurance consumers’ sense of gain, happiness, and security, contribute to creating a clean and orderly financial market environment, promote high-quality development of the insurance industry, and serve the overall goal of Chinese modernization.
