54-year-old Man Repeatedly Faces Job Search Setbacks, Guangzhou Relief Station Warmly Helps Him Return to Employment
The Spring Festival holiday has ended, and various industries are gradually resuming work and production. However, 54-year-old Lao Wang (pseudonym) has repeatedly faced setbacks in job hunting and fallen into despair. With nowhere to turn, he followed the guidance of caring citizens to the Guangzhou Rescue and Assistance Center (hereinafter referred to as “City Rescue Center”) for help. There, he not only received temporary shelter but also professional support, successfully found a job, and reignited hope for life.
“I heard the rescue center can help find a job”
On the eve of the Spring Festival, Lao Wang suddenly lost his job, plunging into hardship. Without any special skills, he usually makes a living through odd jobs and supports his elderly mother. He planned to find a job during the holiday to supplement his family income but was repeatedly blocked due to his age. He visited labor markets multiple times and even asked shop owners on the street, but all his attempts to find temporary work were politely declined.
After facing repeated setbacks and feeling discouraged, Lao Wang sat on the street feeling helpless. “I really have no other options. I heard the rescue center can help find a job, so I decided to try my luck.” Lao Wang, exhausted, came to the City Rescue Center. The staff warmly received him, allowing him to rest and freshen up. Coincidentally, the center was holding a “Spring Festival Seven Days of Joy” event for temporarily stranded and distressed people, inviting Lao Wang to participate in movie screenings, reunion dinners, and other activities. This made him feel warmth and comfort in a foreign land, helping him enjoy the holiday peacefully.
Targeted Assistance and Skill Empowerment Build a Bridge to Employment
After in-depth communication, the staff learned that Lao Wang’s main need was to secure a stable job, but his age and limited job channels were major obstacles. The City Rescue Center immediately launched employment assistance programs, introducing him to the center’s employment service platform to help him achieve independence.
■ Social workers conducted a career assessment for Lao Wang.
Following a systematic evaluation, staff established a personalized employment support file for Lao Wang and arranged for him to participate in the center’s “Spring Skills Improvement Class.” Through offline practical training in housekeeping, cleaning, security, and fire safety, as well as online live courses on job preparation and interview skills, his competitiveness in the job market was enhanced. Meanwhile, staff used AI employment machines, combined with post-holiday labor demand, to screen suitable positions for Lao Wang. They also proactively connected with Huangpu District’s “Employment Station” and local employers to build a bridge to employment.
Ultimately, through multi-party coordination and matching, Lao Wang successfully secured a position in the catering service industry. After the interview, both parties reached an employment agreement on the spot, and he smoothly started work. The company also provided him with food and accommodation benefits. “When I was at my most helpless, the rescue center helped me, and they even found me a job!” Lao Wang said emotionally.
It is reported that the City Rescue Center focuses on solving employment difficulties faced by temporarily distressed individuals. They explore a support pathway of “Rescue—Assessment—Training—Employment—Integration,” establishing nine practical employment skills training projects, recording over 30 online courses, and jointly building more than ten off-site training bases. These efforts effectively help distressed individuals improve skills, overcome difficulties, and reintegrate into society.
