Anutin Re-elected as Thailand's New Prime Minister
How Anutin’s Political Experience Helps Him Win the Premiership Again
△Anutin
On the 19th local time, the Thai House of Representatives held a meeting to vote for the new Prime Minister. The leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, Anutin, received support from more than half of the lawmakers and was elected Thailand’s 33rd Prime Minister.
Anutin was elected leader of the Bhumjaithai Party in 2012. He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health in the Prayut government, and as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in the Srettha and Phettha governments. In June 2025, Bhumjaithai withdrew from the coalition government led by Pheu Thai. In September, with support from the opposition Pheu Thai Party, Anutin was elected Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister. In December 2025, Pheu Thai attempted to pass a no-confidence motion against Anutin’s government, prompting him to dissolve the lower house. On December 24, 2025, Anutin officially announced his candidacy for Prime Minister as the leader of Bhumjaithai in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
On March 4, the Thai Election Commission announced the official vote count for the House of Representatives, confirming that the 499 seats were filled. The Bhumjaithai Party, led by Anutin, won 191 seats, becoming the largest party in parliament. (Reporter Yang Tanli)
