Mars Finance News: OpenAI announced the shutdown of the AI video generation platform Sora’s application and API, citing a shift in focus toward world simulation research to advance robotics technology. Sora was launched in February 2024 as a text-to-video tool, later expanding into an independent social video platform with the addition of “cameos”—AI scene integrations for users. However, the platform’s daily operating costs reached approximately $15 million. The shutdown also terminates a major partnership—Disney had planned to invest $1 billion and license over 250 Disney characters for AI video production. Disney stated that it respects OpenAI’s decision and will continue exploring other AI collaborations. OpenAI emphasized that the AI image generation feature within ChatGPT remains unaffected and will announce the timeline for shutting down the application and API, along with user data retention plans.
