Ethereum has just released its most detailed upgrade plan ever, featuring seven upgrades, five goals, and one large-scale rebuild. The system that enables all operators to reach consensus is called the "consensus mechanism." Ethereum's current consensus mechanism is functioning properly and has been tested in real-world scenarios, but it was designed for an earlier era, which limits the network's maximum capacity. No matter what privacy solutions Ethereum develops, they must also be quantum-resistant—two challenges that must be addressed simultaneously. Solving this will remove a major obstacle to large-scale adoption.
