CCTV warns about frequent scams involving "Two Golds to Cash" schemes; Hunan police intercepts 7 fraudulent packages in one operation
IT House, March 26 — According to CCTV News, recent law enforcement investigations by the Chenzhou police in Hunan have intercepted seven fraudulent gold packages at a courier transfer station, totaling 310 grams of gold. These gold items were hidden inside various unrelated everyday objects such as ketchup, cucumber sticks, and moisturizer.
Police traced the packages and found they came from multiple locations across the country. The suspects used the guise of investment and financial management to lure victims into purchasing gold offline, then sending the gold to designated addresses.
The police explained that after victims mail the purchased gold to the specified location, disguised “couriers” secretly pick up the packages. The gold may then be sold for cash, and the illicit funds are circulated multiple times through virtual currency exchanges, overseas accounts, and other methods. Ultimately, some of the money is returned to early participants under the guise of “investment returns,” encouraging more people to join, while the remaining funds are transferred abroad to scam groups.
Police warn that currently, “Gold and Cash Delivery” has become a new form of investment scam. “Gold and cash” are the new traps set by fraudsters. They lure victims with promises of “high returns and guaranteed profits,” create seemingly legitimate investment platforms, and initially allow victims to earn small profits to build trust. Once they have convinced victims to invest large sums, the scammers either run away with the money or manipulate the data to disappear completely. The public must remember that any high-return investment is almost certainly a scam.
