American streaming giant Netflix announced a price increase again after raising fees last January, with no immediate indication of how it will affect services in Hong Kong.

The standard ad-supported subscription plan in the U.S. will increase from $7.99 to $8.99 per month, a $1 rise of over 12%. The ad-free standard plan will go from $17.99 to $19.99 per month, a $2 increase of over 11%. The premium plan, supporting four devices simultaneously, will also increase by $2 to $26.99 per month. Additionally, the “extra member” fee will rise by $1, with non-resident users on the ad-supported plan paying $6.99, and add-on prices for ad-free plans adjusted to $9.99.

This is Netflix’s first price hike in the U.S. since January 2025. The new prices are effective immediately for new users, while existing users will be notified via email one month before the change.

The company stated that the price adjustment is mainly due to ongoing content investment, including expansion into live events and audio podcasts, which has driven overall costs higher. Netflix will continue to offer a variety of pricing and plan options to meet different needs.

In its January earnings report, Netflix hinted at an upcoming price increase. The company expects that, driven by subscriber growth, price adjustments, and doubled ad revenue, its total sales could reach up to $51.7 billion this year.
