Abstract generation in progress

Mainland China’s popular education influencer Zhang Xuefeng passed away this Tuesday while running in a company in Suzhou. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The news shocked the Chinese internet, sparking widespread discussion. Besides being a top online celebrity with millions of followers, he was only 41 years old at the time of his death. Recently, he was still live streaming online with a strong voice and often went running, appearing very healthy, yet he suddenly died without warning, which many people find regrettable.

Zhang Xuefeng is considered a symbol of his era. Most reports about his death mention that last year he said he would donate 50 million RMB if Beijing attacked Taiwan. In fact, his more pointed comments mostly revolved around education issues, such as saying, “If my child insists on studying journalism, I would definitely knock him out.”

Even in the IT field that Zhang Xuefeng supported, graduates often have to endure the harsh “996” work culture to get into major tech companies, due to the intense competition in the mainland economy, making it difficult for employees and companies to relax. Zhang Xuefeng was a figure who represented this reality.
