China-North Korea Relations | Kim Jong Un Reappointed as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, Xi Jinping Sends Congratulatory Message
North Korea recently held the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly, during which North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was re-elected as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission. The Korean Central News Agency reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping called to congratulate Kim Jong Un yesterday.
Xi Jinping stated that the traditional friendship between China and North Korea is a valuable asset shared by both countries. Maintaining, consolidating, and developing China-North Korea relations has always been a firm policy of the Chinese Party and government. Last year, during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War, the two sides held talks and reached a series of important consensus, opening a new chapter in China-North Korea relations.
Xi Jinping emphasized the high importance placed on the development of China-North Korea relations and expressed willingness to work with Kim Jong Un to continuously promote the development of the traditional friendly relationship, benefiting both countries and their peoples.
Kim Jong Un Meets Lukashenko and Signs a Friendship and Cooperation Treaty
In addition, yesterday in Pyongyang, Kim Jong Un held talks with visiting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during which they signed a friendship and cooperation treaty, agreeing to strengthen high-level exchanges and cooperation in diplomacy, agriculture, education, health, and other fields.
The report states that Kim Jong Un expressed support for the Belarusian leadership’s policies to achieve social and political stability and economic development, and to safeguard sovereignty on the international stage. Lukashenko said that based on the long-standing friendly tradition and shared sentiments between the two countries, bilateral relations have entered a new stage of development.
Lukashenko concluded a two-day official visit to North Korea today and departed from Pyongyang by special plane back to his country. Kim Jong Un, along with the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly Chairman Zhao Yongyuan and key party officials, saw him off.
This is Belarusian President Lukashenko’s first visit to North Korea. After North Korea sent troops to aid Russia, relations between North Korea and Belarus have further deepened, forming a trilateral cooperation pattern among North Korea, Russia, and Belarus.
